Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica M. Chaix.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jessica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was introduced to plastic arts at a very young age in my hometown school in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico. Early on, I began experimenting with a variety of painting and drawing techniques. I was chosen in middle School to be part of the plastic Arts class, where I had my first opportunities to experiment with textures, oils, with an amazing teacher that made me grow my curiosity to keep learning. As a young artist, I moved to Monterrey to more deeply pursue my interests in the arts. I earned a bachelor’s degree at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, while simultaneously continuing my artistic studies. In 2001, I moved to Dallas to expand my art skills, experimenting with different techniques, materials, textures and search for personal growth as an artist. Since moving to Texas, I have been featured in multiple Art exhibitions both individual and group ones, and I’ve been recognized by local and international organizations as an artist showcasing my multi-cultural background and experiences in my artwork. To this day, I continue to explore and experiment with new techniques, always trying to add my personal style in each of my creations. I’m currently being represented by CINQ Gallery in downtown Dallas.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a very exciting road!! I feel very blessed to find my passion since a young age, my first struggle was moving to USA because I initially felt that my Art career was developing great in Monterrey and Juarez, Mexico, I had great mentors and opportunities back in Mexico that I didn’t want to lose. When I first got to Dallas 17 years ago, the homes, architecture and decor was much more classic that in Monterrey, Mexico, so my Art style was a little too modern for the market, I also struggled finding places to exhibit and sale since a lot of the Art that was for sale in decoration stores were prints and reproductions from big companies. when I got pregnant with twins I had to combine my pregnancy and their birth with my Art passion, and having no family to help me with the babies was a struggle, to find the time to keep pursuing my dreams, thankfully I have my amazing husband that has always supported my Art career. Finally I started to find Galleries and small business that opened their doors for different and unique pieces, I entered Art contests, applied to multiple places and some doors started to open. By now I know this is a career with ups and downs, but it’s a passion that never leaves, there’s always room to grow, things to discover and learn, and opportunities to show my work. Creativity is so unique and endless.

Please tell us about Jessica M. Chaix Art.
I’m so lucky that my greatest passion Art became also my business. It wasn’t intentional at the beginning this being a business, it was just something that I’ve been doing all my life and I was enjoying, so when friends started to ask about me selling my paintings I started to experience the feeling of proudness when people liked my creations.

There’s some aspects of my Art being also my business that are hard, Art is so emotional that sometimes it’s hard to handle it was also a business, because sometimes my emotions become so involved that I need to really maintain my attention on growing as a business.

Rejection is a big part of it and it’s obviously hard to take as an artist since your paintings are your “babies” but with time you learn that there’s nothing to do with your Art pieces not being good enough, it’s a matter of personal taste, and there’s always room for everybody, some doors close, and some open.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I would have done anything different, I really think everything happens in its own time, and I’ve tried to balance my Art career with my family, I’ve created the most when my life has guided me in that direction, and I’ve learn from other Artists when I feel I’m stuck and it’s time to grow and learn something new. One thing that has been hard to learn is to contain myself from the joy I feel when a door opens, I need to take time to really know the place and people that I’m entrusting my work, I thinks it’s a matter of experience and time that gives you a good eye on where to submit your Art work.
